We recently performed a diversity review of sourcing in our stories. As a labor reporter I found a dichotomy I'm trying to address. Workers in my stories: Very diverse, disproportionately POC. Labor lawyers, economists, academics: Pretty darn white! 1/x
That's largely due to me returning to the same well over and over. I'll be working on this. If you or someone you know is a labor lawyer/labor economist/academic from an underrepresented group, and willing to talk about issues of the day with a reporter, my DM's are open 2/x
I think it's great the workers in our stories are diverse -- that's always what we've tried to do at HuffPost. But it's a problem when those who offer the big takes and end up in your nut graf are typically white. 3/x
