I think I need to make a thread to start a conversation. There’s a very real chance Kirby Smart has made the wrong QB decision every single time he’s had a choice.

What gets lost in all of this: Kirby had a QB decision to make his second year. Returning 7-5 starter vs. freshman Jake Fromm. He chose Eason. For the one time in his HC career so far, fate favored him and Fromm stepped into win an SEC and play in natty.
I’ll never say playing Fromm in 2018 was wrong choice. Every coach in America would’ve done the same, no matter what they say. Fields got plenty of run.

But Fields is better than Fromm. And while it didn’t *really* affect in 2018, Fields departure had direct link to 2019 + 2020.
And then the 2020 debacle. No coach has gotten worse QB fate in the last three years (Fields transfer, Fromm early entry, Newman opt out), but again — this one no fault of his own, to my knowledge — Newman not being there hurt. Could’ve gone D’Eriq King or someone else.
Instead he rolled with Mathis, Bennett + Daniels. In that order...

Mathis got the start in the Arkansas game. Bennett was clearly the better choice.
Bennett got the start going forward — and get he’s hurt now — but now the staff thinks Daniels is the guy despite questioning his health all season long.

If JT goes out and shines the week after a QB dude vs. Florida, could be well on path to yet another wrong QB decision.
