I know many of you are airing your views about Christmas and families visiting this year. I understand it’s just one year, and keeping this virus at bay is vital... but for some of us alone, some very sick, and others facing their last Christmas.... it’s really not that simple
As a young women in a care home, I’m completely confused at the constant inconsistency. My carers have children who are sent home from school regularly to isolate for 2 weeks, yet the other household members DONT have to isolate.
They regularly go shopping for groceries, petrol stations, family interaction outside...still ok to care for me...yet my mother, who is self isolating, shielding in doors, no contact with others outside of taking deliveries may not be allowed to spend Christmas with me
Christmas can be a very lonely and often tormenting time. Suicides and crisis situations always increase during this period, so for many with mental health issues, to be told “it’s just a few days!” Is not enough...what are we going to to ensure people don’t die?
And then there’s the other vulnerable folk....our elderly. In May, I witnessed my grandmother simply give up. “I feel like I’m being looked after by aliens”. No faces, just masks and visors.

How many have died, I don’t know, but there has to be a better way of dealing with this
I urge people to think sensibly when voicing their opinions. PLEASE think outside of your world. The sick and vulnerable are not collateral damage. Their lives are just as important as halting this virus.
If you still agree Christmas should be on strict lockdown, regardless of situation, then I completely respect your opinion...but if you’re not demanding more resources and funding for services to help those at risk, then I’m not sure you fully understand the implications.
I apologise if I’m coming across as lecturing, I honestly don’t mean to. I just want people to understand that this government have systematically screwed over the sick and disabled for decades. Their strategy does not include strengthening resources for the vulnerable.
So please, by all means continue to state Christmas should be cancelled, but tag as many politicians into that tweet as possible and urge others to recognise that #MentalHealth #DisabledAdults and our elders should not be forgotten.
