Hi @TomCottonAR @SenTomCotton - When my paternal line sailed here from West Hertfordshire with the Prudden group, accompanying the Davenport group on the Hector in 1637, Puritans in the Massachusetts Bay Colony were carrying out a war of extermination against the Pequots, and
starting a war of attrition against the Narragansetts, 40 years before King Philip's War. As John Fisk wrote in 1896, "The overthrow of the Pequots was a cardinal event in the planting of New England. It removed the chief obstacle to the colonization of the Connecticut coast"
In 1638, we left the Massachusetts Bay Colony and paid the Quinnipiac people to save our butts from the Pequots so we could found New Haven (yeah, my family name is on the 1641 Brockett map), & in the process screwed them out of land, creating the first reservation in American
history. Despite having fled England due to religious persecution under Charles I, we Puritans, massive hypocrites that we are, thought we needed to "Christianize" the people whose land we invaded, so throughout 1640s, 1650s, and 1660s, we coerced them into reeducation camps
called "praying towns" - where we stripped them of their history and culture and forced biblical laws on them. We kept them away from their own people, while also refusing to accept them into our own communities. That lasted until some other European settlers got freaked out
and accused us missionaries and our "converts" of treason. So we English rounded up all the Native folks who had been loyal to us and dumped them on Deer Island without food & shelter. In 1675, *we* went all-out savage and pretty much wiped them out in King Philip's War and by
1677, the converts we hadn't murdered, sold into slavery, or driven out, we restricted back to the praying towns that served as reservations/containment camps where we condemned these people who helped & trusted us to live as servants and tenant farmers. So, do me a BIG FAT FAVOR
and take your horse sh*t fantasy idealism about the puritan founders (aka my direct ancestors) and happy-go-lucky #Thanksgiving and insert them forcefully into your rear end until your rapture occurs, mmmmkay? Thanks.
