for reasonable debate it is mandatory to criticize one’s own side and hold oneself to equal if not higher standards than the opponent. respecting a person as a human life is the base requirement for disagreement. otherwise it’s not disagreement, but dehumanization and bad faith.
identities, ideologies etc that are not necessarily grounded in observable reality can exist. they are however limited to the framework of law in society that should be as evidence and reality based as possible, protect vulnerable groups and weigh interests carefully.
we allow self identification as christian, muslim for example albeit the state is secular and there is no evidence for a deity. the rights of religious self identification however end where the self expression of others is impacted.
the interest of certain religious males not to sit next to a female does not override the woman’s right to free movement. she however cannot necessarily expect the man to shake her hand for a greeting, because her right for validation doesn’t override his right to bodily autonomy
rights are always in conflict. how we address this conflict says a lot about the state of our society.
