This is why, in the UK, we now have specialised peri-natal community mental-health teams. The Tories brought them in 3/4yrs ago. The Tories should make more of a fuss of them than they do tbh, as it undermines the nasty party image that some try to paint.

Its one of the best & most important things that the Tories have done over the last ten years & yet they never talk about it.
‘The U.S. has the highest maternal mortality rate among developed countries.’ https://www.commonwealthfund.org/publications/issue-briefs/2020/nov/maternal-mortality-maternity-care-us-compared-10-countries
‘Many factors contribute to the high number of maternal deaths in the U.S., including too few maternity care providers, especially midwives, and lack of access to comprehensive postpartum supports’
‘The U.S. and Canada have the lowest overall supply of midwives and ob-gyns — 12 and 15 providers per 1,000 live births, respectively (Exhibit 3). All other countries have a supply that is between two and six times greater.’
How can you be ‘pro-life’ but not be in favour of universal health-care? That would be my question.
In addition to that: ‘the U.S. is the only high-income country that does not guarantee paid leave to mothers after childbirth.’
In addition to that: ‘the U.S. is the only high-income country that does not guarantee paid leave to mothers after childbirth.’
It amazes me that Biden apparently thinks that cancelling student debt is more important than stuff like this & it also amazes me that a bunch of people, on the other side of the political fence, evidently think that being ‘pro-life’ stops at the point of birth.
If you are pro-life, that should including supporting things that help to sustain life imo, & for the Democrats, doing something about this should take precedence over cancelling student debt, which will likely be regressive anyway, benefiting the affluent more so than the poor.
America is the richest country in the world. There really isnt any excuse for these kinds of statistics.
