One of my pet peeves as a radiologist is when patients refuse to submit old scans saying “abhi jo dikhta hei woh batao” - tell us what you see on the present scan.

Nearly his entire lung looks abnormal with inflammatory changes and some fibrosis. He has a scan done earlier which he refuses to submit saying I don’t want a comparison, report what you see now.

You don’t go to a doctor and ask them to do their work with one eye closed or one hand tied behind their back - you may think you are testing the competence of a doctor, in reality you are making a fool of yourself.

This is not limited to COVID patients - we often see this with follow up patients of stroke and malignancies - the report can change drastically with a previous reference point - be smart and carry all your records with you.

Patient agreed to submit previous scans bec we informed him that we will write “patient refused to submit old scans” - that’s to cover our ass because patients have turned around and lied that we never asked them for scans or did not insist.

Being arrogant or purposefully untruthful or evasive with your doctor is only harming your own treatment.
You may chose to disbelieve it - nearly all doctors are in the profession because they truly want to make a difference.
