there is lots of great work going on in this area. thanks to @UCL_Loneliness for motivating us all.
Cognitive & behavioural approaches seem attractive. there are some trials out there, & we will synthesise these with the help of the evidence ninjas at @Cochrane_CCMD

we have also designed a brief intervention for older people based on behavioural activation. it's called the BASIL trial, and there is a twitter-feed where you can keep up to date with our progress @BASIL_Research
this has all happened super-quick. in fact much more quickly than it usually takes us to do a trial. all thanks to @NIHRresearch and the designation of #BASIL as an #UrgentPublicHealth priority.
