The typical Kenyan problem to a societal issue is "It's working for me, I can't understand why everyone else has a problem"

We have mastered Individual Responsibility as a response to social problems, yet that doesn't make the problem go away
The people who insisting that things are fine and are working for them then put up a lot of resistance against anyone else advocating for a proper solution.
Anyone struggling is advised to work hard, to put more effort into finding a solution, and to be like those who are not facing the problem by finding an individual solution.
The Government insists on Individual Responsibility saying it can't offer solutions, yet continues to extract tax and borrow in the name of Kenyans.
And many Kenyans agree with the Government on Individual Responsibility as a solution.

Any Kenyan insisting on a proper solution is told off and advised to pursue Individual Responsibility - it works.
Too much traffic on our roads?

Why can't you wake up at 3 AM like I do. Stop being lazy!

But if everyone woke up at 3 AM it would stop being a solution.

Individual Responsibility only works for a few.
Kenyans have become so proud of Individual Responsibility that it is now a badge of honour.

We lack empathy for anyone who does not practice Individual Responsibility and insist they should face the consequences.
We support police brutality and contravention of the law for anyone we deem not to be Individually Responsible.

We support the police when they deny people bail and hold them indefinitely as punishment for things like contravening curfews.
We argue that everyone should take up Individual Responsibility like we have and stay home.

And those who do not should face whatever punishment the state prescribes to them, whether legal or not.
Yet police intervention can not solve a health problem.

Small pox was not eradicated through police brutality and unlawful punishments.
And yet many Kenyans have been wrongfully killed in encounters with police even for non-criminal encounters.

Traffic stops have turned into Kenyans being shot dead for refusing to bribe.

People heading home have being killed for being out a few minutes past curfew hours.
But any attempts to find proper solutions for all are resisted under the view that if we all could take up Individual Responsibility, then we do not need solutions.
We believe that Individual Responsibility is the prefect solution until the day it doesn't work for us.

But then, there's no other solution since we have fought any attempts to find one asking people to be individually responsible.
Majority of Kenyans are equivalent to Trump voters, in that we fight and resist any attempt at societal solutions that work for everyone.

We insist that individual solutions are working well for us and should therefore work for everyone else.
We insist that anyone who is unable to get an Individual Solution to work for them is just not trying hard enough, without realising that such can only work for a few.
Governments emerged because it became clear that societal solutions were needed for many challenges, with the government being an authority to coordinate and allocate resources.
Governments can therefore not insist that citizens ought to take up individual solutions and responsibility for what the government should be doing.
