I am sure the advice to angel invest as a student to get into VC is a good one.

But I am also sure it often requires the student to have a certain socioeconomic background.

Fortunately there are other things one can do to simulate the effect of angel investing.

Thread:
1/3 Get comfortable with risk

Most students do not have the capital to angel invest.

But might afford to put a few dollars in stocks

Even if it is only small amounts betting on a company based on your own hypothesis is an alternative route to get risk exposure
2/3 Provide value

Much can be said on the topics of VCs providing value.

But in Uni if you are one of those who take the extra 30 min to help someone with an essay.

Or share suggestions on how to get into the internship you just completed.

People will remember.
3/3 Always be hustling

Met a guest lecturer / company rep / teacher that you were really impressed with?

Send them a cold email and ask if you could pick hers / his brain sometime.

Just make sure that the other person also can benefit from the meeting in some way.
+ There are plenty of routes to get into VC.

If you can angel invest go ahead and do it.

If not, building up a solid network from hustling + providing value, as well as adding some exposure to risk is a more accessible proxy.
