I'm gonna break down what I mean by using hourly rates to estimate so here we go

Most artists I've talked with have a time range of anywhere between an hour to 15+ to complete pieces.
So if you're selling a doodle that you finish in half an hour, $10 should be the base cost. https://twitter.com/cysketch/status/1328628521690750978
But this ties in with the supply and demand of your work, so you have to consider whether this is worth investing your time into getting commission work vs working on your skill level to get faster/better so if you took 15 hours to finish something that's $150 and get no bites-
Then you should be putting that time into improving your art rather than waiting for commissions to come your way so you can be paid properly for the time you put into the piece.
This isn't even including the hours you should stack on for client communication, revisions, research, etc.
I've also mentioned this in the thread, but seriously if you're looking to make money - get a day job to pay the bills and don't rely on solely art to give you an income.
The reason the hourly rate works as an estimate and gauge for yourself is say you start by doing comms at $40 per and you finish in 4 hours each.
What happens over time is YOU GET FASTER/BETTER.
So why would you sell the same thing for $40 per if you can finish them in 2 hrs.
So then you RAISE YOUR DAMN RATES TO MATCH.
Like if you're at a point where you consistently sell out 5 slots, you could limit it to 3 and sell at a higher price so you get more pay for 3 than you would 5 and finish them in less time cuz for god's sake you have to live a life
"But I have a small following-"
The quality of your audience is what matters. There's a big difference between having 5 followers that consistently buy your work vs 100 with a CHANCE of having someone in that crowd buying your stuff. There is more than one way to get work.
Does having a larger audience increase your chances of getting commissions? Yes
Does it 100% guarantee it? No.

So get bloody paid properly for your art.
