Most senior black person working in the Home Office on the Windrush compensation scene, a barrister, has quit because she thinks the scheme is institutionally racist & run by the same people in the Home Office who had worked on immigration enforcement before #r4today
She says standard of documentary proof required of applicants for compensation under the Windrush scheme is too high & system too complex, which is reflected in pathetically poor figures paid out to date. At least 9 people have died while waiting for compensation payouts #r4today
Utterly and completely damning that the most senior black woman working in the Windrush compensation scheme has quit over racism in the scheme & disrespect from colleagues.

Patel's Home Office & approach to learning lessons from Windrush scandal needs complete overhaul. #r4today
Did you know, EVERY SINGLE ONE of the policies of the hostile environment remain in place for immigration enforcement EXACTLY as they were when they caused the Windrush scandal. There are no plans to scrap them despite their obvious racist impacts incl on BritishCitizens #r4today
I want you to please try to imagine the headlines this morning if the most senior Jewish person appointed by Labour to review the impact of anti-semitism in the party had quit yesterday over institutional racism in the scheme designed for redress & disrespect from her colleagues.
I hate, hate doing this one-racism-compared-to-another thing. I really do. But there has to be some accountability for Patel & Johnson that at least scratches at the surface of the furore over Corbyn. Labour do not run the damn country, please remember.
The racist Tory policies have ruined and continue to ruin the lives of black people in particular every day in this country. Their attempts to redress this are clearly insincere and replicate the same racism. They reject all input from experts & impacted communities.
Ending the hostile environment in its entirety must be among the absolute top concerns for anybody claiming to be anti racist in this country. But it isnt. Migrants, and those seen as not 'truly' belonging here, are fair game for far, far too many.
The story much closer to the top of the hour, given a longer interview on #r4today is about the very important racism scandal around the ex-leader of the party not in power. Not about the important racism scandal around the policies of the party *in power*. Genuinely why is this?
#BlackLivesMatter I swear that was a "moment" we all pretended to give a fuck about a little while ago? Didnt Johnson say "of course" black lives matter? Did the lives of the black folks your party pursued as illegal immigrants & who died before you paid them compensation matter?
