Ah yes, poor Karl. Bit of a story behind that one. Thread, as they say...
My father had died not long before this game and his mates all clubbed together to sponsor the match in his memory, gather everybody that knew him in the sponsors' box and basically have a drink up... https://twitter.com/retroQPR/status/1329202740514402310

Here he is, bless him, in the programme that day. That's as well dressed as he ever got. Even allowing for the shirt being tucked in. We also share the same 'do we have to take my photo' face...
Incidentally, that's also his "accidentally booked a holiday while QPR are playing" face - missed Man Utd away and Sheff Wed home (Kevin Gallen's first goal) because he'd got the dates wrong and we were in Florida. Him and I were fuming, mum was fuming because we were fuming.
Anyway part of the match sponsor job at the Huddersfield game was picking a MOTM, and as we know QPR were absolutely fcking woeful. So the word went round that everybody was to vote for @QPRJudeTheCat. And everybody did...
Club refused to do it. Needed a proper one for the pictures etc. We refused to back down, played the dead dad card and said the kids wanted Jude....
In the end, because he'd scored, they just named Connolly anyway and wheeled the poor guy into what was effectively a wake to receive a bottle of champagne, after a dire display at home to Huddersfield Town. TBF, he was very good about it.
Should add QPR sent reps, beloved Daphne and others, up to Scunthorpe for the funeral. Gerry spent time with my bro & I before thegame asking us about school, home etc. Gerry also wrote to us several times, telling us about the club, inviting us to games, making sure we were ok
