Look, I know being a librarian doesn’t mean I get to read all day, but...why is it so important that I never read at the desk? Does the existence of our profession where we do book displays, reader advisory & maintain book collections really require that we not read the books?

I understand we need to be available to patrons and not look distracted at the desk, but hot take is that it’s possible to read AND be available, and the professional culture of “don’t read books at work” is actually just how employers force us to do unpaid work on our free time.
