/ Not going to name names but someone very nice and friendly who’s treated me very well in the past basically gaslit me on one of my posts today (why don’t you just leave Labour, you obviously hate the Labour Party if you don’t adore a leader who brought the worst defeat…
/ …since 1935, all politicians are the same yada yada - ie the now cringingly familiar stuff Jews in Labour have been subjected to for 5 years and counting), followed by the well-known libel about Starmer and Jimmy Saville.
/ I’ve since hidden the comments as i know this person to be inherently good and don’t want to encourage a pile-on on my own Facebook profile.
/ What’s interesting is not the fictitious story about Starmer and Jimmy Saville but that an ill-conceived Tory attack narrative is being co-opted and distributed by unapologetic followers of someone who claims to be of the left (although the Socialist Campaign group was…
/ …advised by their lawyer to delete the tweet which they then did). It immediately brings to the fore echoes of when a Labour councilllor downloaded (with permission) and shared an image from a white supremacist Neo-Nazi site because it fitted their narrative on Jews.
/ Anything goes when you’re at either end of the horseshoe. And if you’re willing to place preconceived bias above listening to actual friends and their lived experience you’ll swallow anything and more than likely end up in some very dark places.
/ Being a lovely friendly spiritual person most definitely doesn’t give you an immunity from extremist propaganda much like attendance at the battle of Cable Street is not magically passed through DNA as Jeremy and Piers would love you to believe.
/ There was also a clear lack of understanding about why I’d object to racist grandpa so much as if it was merely a factional decision I’d made rather than based on countless documented evidence (not to mention personal experience) of a former leader of a mainstream political…
/ …party holding views typical of the world’s oldest and most enduring hatred. I decided to hide the comments and not engage. I’ll continue to engage on other matters and will gladly spend further evenings getting wasted and talking about music should I be welcomed again.
/ Like most British Jews I’m tired of engaging with people who’ve either made a choice not to believe me or decided it’s just a price worth paying, no matter how lovely they are.
