Here is evidence of Nathan Cleary have one of the worst attacking performances for a halfback in Origin history - Game 3 2020.

But it’s mostly not his fault NSW lost, because he has never been that kind of player. It’s Coach Fittler’s fault for picking him and dropping Keary

QLD have 6 players - half their Defending team - in the middle occupying 15 m of space, but Cleary with zero vision turns the ball back on the inside. Total waste of attack and open NSW players.

With Walker around Cleary’s side, NSW have an overlap, with Walker looking to take advantage of the one man overlap.....but Cleary passes for a Frizell hit up. A Great attacking chance ruined and numbers advantage ignored.

Cleary does nothing to invite Crichton as a hole runner/use him as a block play.... or take advantage of the extra man Tupou wide. Another great attacking chance ruined.

NSW have a 2 man overlap with Tedesco and Walker begging for the ball, but Cleary turns back inside for a useless hit up. Absolutely crazy.
2 man overlap completely wasted.

PS. Gutherson was never a threat as a centre. Walker is begging him to do something. Hit that inside hole or do an in then away.....just another QLD tackle

Cleary giving away a 6-again

Quick hands and NSW have a great a attacking chance with another one-man overlap with Walker looking to exploit the numbers....but Cleary with no quick hands takes a hit-up. Another attack ruined.
Wighton and Tupou desperate for the ball all night.

NSW were struggling out of their own end and all night and Cleary was doing absolutely nothing the whole game reading the space out wide so to organise a relieving spread of the ball.
Just look how far Gagai in infield.
Complete Tactical failure.

NSW have a potential 1 man advantage, but Cleary never EVER runs to the line to engage a defender.... all he almost ever does is just pass it on for another boring useless zero-threat hit up, and waste a one man advantage.

NSW are more tired than QLD at this stage & Cleary because he doesn’t know anything else, kicks it away & asks NSW to defend & get even more tired.
Defending is the most tiring aspect of the game.

Once again nearly half the QLD team is occupying a tight middle and all visionless Cleary does is turn it back inside into a QLD wall.

Sure it’s the 5th tackle, but NSW have a 2 v 1 on the outside with an enormous paddock for Addo-Carr to run into.

Is kicking the ball handover style a better option than Addo-Carr in all that space. NEVER. Not in any form of modern Rugby League

Remember when QLD made that break off a Munter offload just before half time. Well that’s all because Cleary refused to make that tackle and wrap up the ball. He just watched Munster offload

PS Damien Cook bombed this one. NSW with a man advantage with Walker potentially setting up his 4 ignored assist. Cook hits it up and another chance missed.

Why oh why, when your on QLD 30m line with Addo-Carr open like that, would you kick it to QLD ?!?!
Cleary is a robot

Is Cleary organising any sort of attack to take advantage of all that space ? Of course he isn’t.

Branko Lee is so horribly out of position, that Cleary could have easily passed to Crichton or Wighton into that hole, with Tupou wide.
It’s 3 v 1, but Cleary bombs a great chance passing to the closest player whose Walker and he has to turn inside.
Disaster

Cleary has Walker wide, AND a NSW 1 man advantage, but takes a run......it’s becoming diabolical.

Instead of recognising all that space out wide, Cleary takes a hit up !

Cleary oblivious to all that space on his right, so he chip kicks and gives away possession to QLD

PS, Jerbo who’s effort and tackling is made for Origin, but way too often he took his ups when he should’ve passed as a block play.

That happed way too often across the whole team and it completely played into QLD narrow D Line tactics.

Cleary not engaging the line for a draw and pass, like he never does.

What is the better pass here : Yeo for a hit up or Addo-Carr into that space ?

Cleary ruins a 3 v 1 on the outside to insanely take a run himself. That cost NSW the draw, then the Series.....But its Fittler’s fault more that anyone else because this is who Cleary has always been till now.
