On minimum wage, Interviewed a business owner yesterday, company has about 50 employees, PBT about rm500k. Decent.

He was arguing vehemently against raising min wage. Says that’ll destroy his business. Says that he might as well swap to machines and AI if wage cost rises. 1/n
I don’t blame him. His purpose in life is to make money. That’s why he started his business.

If I want to look for philanthropic folks, the last place I’ll look at is a place where the individuals are out there trying to make money. 2/n
But if we don’t raise money wage, how can our workers, particularly the B40 and M40 workers, who pours labour into the work force and not capital, get more for themselves?

Business owners won’t help, they believe it will be against their interests to raise wage costs. 3/n
Is there enough political will in the government to raise money wage? How do we create such a will if there isn’t any?

Maybe political parties who champion labour rights will get more votes in the next election? 🤷🏻‍♂️ idk?

Labour needs to match capital, it’s only fair. 4/4
Also, I wanted to write minimum wage, not money wage. God damn iOS auto correct. It’s gonna be 2021 soon and we still haven’t sorted this mess yet 😑
