For current/future government cybersecurity leaders note what @C_C_Krebs and @RGB_Lights both did. As CISA and NSA leaders they engaged the community genuinely and with expertise. Both at orgs with tarnished reps at the time. And the genuine approach won folks over. Be like them.
Presenting at a conference. Talking at the community. Standing up another initiative or council doesn’t work. You have to be part of the community that you want support and help from. This isn’t cyber specific but too often we see govt leaders struggle here.
But every time I’ve seen leaders truly embrace being part of the community I’ve seen biases and distrust make way for progress and partnership. It’s not a hard strategy but it takes a genuine and thoughtful approach.
I also commend @JimLangevin for being at cybersecurity conferences for as long as I’ve been going to them and consistently making a genuine approach in understanding and engaging the community.
