CDF reports that IGADF has found 23 incidents of unlawful killing of Afghan PUCs and civies. 39 Afghans murdered. Revoking meritorious unit citations for SOTG. Order of battle to be changed. Details to follow.
SASR mainly responsible. Awards to be reconsidered and revoked if required (assuming the Victoria Cross). Command failure although no direct evidence of command covering up the incidents. Senior NCO influence blamed.
CDF confirms 2 Squadron, SASR, to be struck off Order of Battle
25 members responsible for the substantiated killings. Some still serving. Chief of Army Burr is considering status of each individual.
None of the 57 incidents investigated occurred during contacts. CDF clear none were ‘fog of war’.
Another squadron to eventually be replaced but 2 is disbanded as a permanent reminder of the crimes, not necessarily because the majority of crimes occurred during their rotations.
