I'm not really a social media kind of guy but I've been encouraged to share more and #buildinpublic, so here we go. My first thread. A few weeks ago, I started working on http://PainPoints.io .

http://PainPoints.io is a #newsletter that shares user research from 1:1 interviews that I conduct with entrepreneurs, students, marketers, software engineers, designers, and other technologists.
The goal is to discover the challenges and frustrations people have in their daily lives and help inspire others to create new content, products, and communities that address them.
I got some early validation on the idea from @jakobgreenfeld who called Pain Points, "Idea Extraction as a Service", which I thought was a fun way to describe it. He's written a lot about #ideation, and it's just brilliant

I've attempted to build products in the past that I "thought" people wanted but my biggest mistake was I didn't actually talk to anyone. I took the "build it and they will come" approach. Well, nobody ever came
. #failures

This forced me to take a step back. I listened to the "Mom Test" interview on @IndieHackers and realized how valuable it can be to just have a conversation with people you're interested in helping. Many thanks, @robfitz. https://www.indiehackers.com/podcast/154-rob-fitzpatrick-of-the-mom-test
I was very fortunate to start my career in tech at @punkave and I remembered how much I loved the user interviews and qualitative research the company did. I knew, because of this experience, that I would enjoy talking with people 1:1.
Working on http://PainPoints.io forced me to dive deeper into the #UX community which has been a great space to learn and grow. My favorite #podcasts are @gettechnicalpod from @hmwheele and Awkward Silence by @userinterviews.
At the moment Pain Points is a User Research #newsletter. The long-term goal is to build a user research repository filled with rich qualitative data that would help inform the products we build, the content we write, and the communities we serve.
Some people have told me that Pain Points is to User Research what http://Trends.vc is to Market Research. That's very kind, but I'm only on newsletter issue number 2. @DruRly is doing remarkable work. In case you've been sleeping under a rock, check him out.
The stats so far, after publishing two user research reports:

Folks that are much smarter than me ( @JanelSGM
) have mentioned that these are good numbers for a newbie
so I'm going to keep going
. I'm more confident now than in years past, that I'm adding value to the world and not just pushing zeros and ones.

Many thanks to @DavidHunterJr, @BillFoxStrategy, @yarobagriy, @jakobgreenfeld, @JanelSGM, and @stanwilsonjr for your help and advice
.
