Gay men can have sex. They can be hypersexual. They can self identify as whores or sluts or whatever they like. They can also not have sex. They can be ace or aro or whatever they like.
Gay men can be masculine. But they can also be feminine. They can be gender non conforming or they can dress like a ripped biker. How you dress doesn't dictate what you like.
Gay men can be as much predators and villains as they can be victims. It's not homophobic to write an abusive or villainous gay person, because sexuality doesn't make you a good or bad person inherently.
Gay men can make their sexuality their personality, if they feel like it. They're proud of it! And lord knows we have too many straight boys who make being straight their entire personality.
Gay men can like women. Don't be afraid not to write strictly homosexual men, and while we can always use more bisexual rep, please don't shy away from pansexuals either! We wont bite, I promise.
Gay men can be tops or bottoms or vers, or dom/sub/switches. Like I said, we're gay and we can have sex. Not every gay man who has sex uses those terms, but using them isnt homophobic or wrong.
You can have a meaningless sex scene! Hell, write BL if you want to! No matter who you are or how you identify, we can always use more gay men in media. Go nuts, man! (or woman, or whatever u are <3, ur valid!)
There are going to be people mad about this advice, but just know you don't need the approval of every single gay man to write fiction. All we ask is that we're not portrayed as bad people as a whole, and a single character isn't going to ruin us.
(small note: i would recommend not making your only gay character within a whole story be the villain, as that doesn't reflect super well. you don't have to pack the story full of them, but if you've only got one and they're a horrible person, perhaps reconsider!)
In the end, write whatever you like, and don't let these people dictate who can write what kind of fiction. I'm sure whatever you write, it'll be great! I believe in you!
