I've now watched more US TV news in a couple of weeks than I think I'd ever managed in a decade. My respect for the BBC has risen enormously. I can definitely see how Britons whose only other experience of TV news is that thinking the BBC is miles ahead as world's best.
CNN, Fox, MSNBC, all have these awful "very serious opinion" moments far too often. And they're almost without exception dire. I started laughing at times during them.
Also Sky News, ITV, Channel 4, and all the rest. It really is night and day. The "very serious opinion" anchors on "news" in the USA whether right, centre, left, Republican, Democrat, or whatever is just awful.
I guess we don't have that in the UK because of Ofcom regulation? So I guess I'm now more in favour of that.
ps. the actual journalism in between the poorly-marked opinion and cheerleading was very good. On all the networks. CNN, MSNBC, Fox, all had really good journalists around the country asking good questions, getting good answers, giving clear and correct information.
