If it seems like I'm fired up about faith & politics today, I am! Since enslaved African were 1st exposed to Christianity its been used as a cudgel used to justify enslavement. Once those enslaved embraced Christianity and challenged oppressive message preached by their "masters" https://twitter.com/CharlesPPierce/status/1329139713098346498
The "masters" began to engage in theological gaslighting against the liberation being preached from plantation to plantation. Slave preachers like Nat Turner were called crazy, dangerous & unchristian.
All because Turner & others like him directly undermined oppressive power structure supported by Christian teachings more interested in maintaining power than by living a witness for Christ to broken folks living in a broken world.
The attacks on @ReverendWarnock are theological gaslighting. These so-called evangelicals have remained silent in the face of egregious human rights abuses. When confronted with Christ's own words they choose to manipulate them to maintain power. The hypocrisy is real.
