This was a family fighting a proxy war through biographies and newspaper articles. Diana had her favourite journalists in whom she would confide. The idea she was some unwitting dupe in the Bashir interview is the stuff of fantasy

Now, you’re not suggesting that this was not a very astute woman at the absolute height of her powers when it came to dealing with the media? This is not to say that as a very young woman she hadn’t been treated badly, but blimey had she turned the tables.
