I bet the position "I play video games more to escape politics than to think about them" is like 15:1 or 20:1 favored over "It's important to me that games include good political messages" and yet the former position is completely absent form mainstream games writing.
2/ "Mainstream/Majority opinions are now unwriteable because your friends will get mad at you and you could lose clout in your social and professional circles" can go a long way toward explaining what a barren wasteland progressive commentary has become in so many places
3/ Like I ragged on this the other day but who is the intended audience? What percentage of players of this game cares whether Miles cooperates w/cops? Would 5% be an unfair underestimate? I don't think so! https://io9.gizmodo.com/miles-morales-reforms-spider-mans-relationship-with-the-1845575036
4/ The problem is if somehow Gizmodo screwed up and allowed a "Let's not overinterpret a Spider Man game" piece to be published, it would cause a shitstorm and the writer would suffer professional damage, with a slight chance of an actual HR complaint.
