It really sucks being an active member of an organization that commits to equity and inclusion in every manner and facet - except when it comes to Jews.
Being in a union is often great, but sometimes its a reminder of the systemic antisemitism that exists.
"We neither condone nor tolerate behaviour that undermines the dignity or self-esteem of any individual", but they'll go out of our way to reject a definition of antisemitism that has been created and accepted by the Jewish community.
They state that part of their concerns are Academic Freedom related, and that IHRA "could result in intimidation, censorship". Never mind that they endorsed BDS, which includes an academic boycott, the exact opposite of academic freedom.
They'll say that they stand with people of colour, and that no person of colour could ever support IHRA.
Never mind the Jews of colour at McMaster, the ones who have held leadership position in the Union, and the ones who lead the community.
Never mind the experiences of Black Jews, Indian Jews, Moroccan Jews, Yemenite Jews, and Indigenous Jews.

Never mind that Jews are targeted, and its justified because of pro-Palestine stances. https://twitter.com/chloetsila/status/1299401749695004675

So I call on the Canadian Labor movement, and @cupe_3906 in particular, to reevaluate their biases and to make sure that their spaces are truly inclusive.
To reject antisemitism, and to stop thinking that Jewish members are on a secret campaign to silence debate.
Please. Just listen to us with open ears and consider that when we tell you our history and what we've been through, we actually know what we're talking about.

Give us the same consideration that you give any other marginalized group, any other visible minority.

Please.
