I cannot emphasize enough how if you are a woman or queer and you are diagnosed
- depression
- generalized anxiety
- BPD
you should demand a manic depressive/ adhd/ asd spectrum diagnostic https://twitter.com/hoodgothic/status/1328715762228408320

ALL THREE!!! (if you can afford it)
when those go undiagnosed, depression and anxiety are almost always “comorbid”— which means they are just symptoms of a larger disorder
it’s like having the flu and being diagnosed with a runny nose— you’re not treating the actual problem

and BPD is overdiagnosed in women because we tend to actually notice our emotional response to things. As my former psychologist put it “who CAN be friends with their ex anyway?? that’s not a thing we should be telling women to do— and think about who is telling them they should”
Women are also more likely to be prescribed antidepressants when their diagnosis recommends stimulants. It’s related to pregnancy— as if our existence should be dictated by our uterus
antideps are more expensive, more complicated to stop, and cause permanent mood alternations...

....where stimulants only stay in the system while being used and are less addictive when taken properly— plus they treat other aspects of ADHD that antideps can’t like weight fluctuations and energy regulation
if you know that you need stimulants don’t let them push you around.

I’m always here in the DMs for women/ queer bbys who need advice about diagnosis/medication/ etc. I am NOT a doctor in any way shape or form so my advice is never medical— but I am an expert in having undiagnosed ADHD as a woman. I did that for 22 years.
