I started being intentional about gender-inclusive language two years ago, and last year even more so. I have always been super clear about the reasons behind the use of non-binary indirect and direct language in my class and my students are completely on board #langchat
This set is what I wish I had when I started this journey. I am well aware that the RAE has not approved gender-inclusive lge -if you are planning to come with that discourse to my space. Sorry, I am deconstructed and decolonized and I do not owe any institution any worshipping
Languages belong to the people, it is in our geolects that language becomes alive. Non-binary language is an ongoing conversation within our LQBTQ+ Spanish speaking communities around the globe. The Spanish lge, and therefore its diverse cultures, are not monolithic #langchat
We are as diverse as it comes, so when it comes to inclusive lge, there is no such thing as one correct way or official. Our LGBTQ+ communities are still exploring ways to make language work for themselves #langchat
This exploration happens in the context of our different idiolects and geolects, and it might look different in different geographical areas and/or for different people #langchat #lenguajenobinario
The set has 10 pages with pronouns and frequently used adjectives. Also, the adjectives end in @ because I want everybody to be able to explain the different possibilities and ways in which a binary language like Spanish, can become gender-inclusive #langchat
This is why there are pages in this set that have the letters X, A, O, E and I so you can replace the ending of the adjectives with these mini cards #langchat

That said, what is important here is finding ways to be more inclusive in your class in ways that accommodate your community and the larger community. There needs to be intention behind inclusion #langchat #lenguajenobinario
I recently read somewhere that some teachers were avoiding the conversation about the binary nature of Spanish.
They were avoiding the words feminine and masculine. Let me be clear about this, colegas. You don’t solve a problem but pretending it is not there #lenguajenobinario

Switching their words to describe grammatical gender does not make you inclusive. Quite the opposite, your invisibilization, erasure just benefits the status quo. Our students need clarity and reality #langchat #lenguajenobinario
They don’t need a coat of sugar, with a pro binary side solution that caters to fragility. This attitude is what gets on my nerves lately, cisgender people making things work for themselves, self-centering, and not addressing the systematic issues ... #langchat
That affect disenfranchised, marginalized communities.
Mi ciela, sorry to bring it to you but that neither is inclusion nor allyship. It is definitely not liberation
