Our mission: find a collared deer that we thought was dead. Although while dead she seemed to cross the river...

We found her. She was dead. But looked relatively intact. And somebody had put in a lot of effort trying to hide her...
So we didnt get as many samples as we thought
But its still a bit of a mystery. Did the lynx(s) kill her? Was she injured first? Why did she 'die', cross the river 3 days later, and then 'die' again?

Thanks again to the funders of this project we're not only learning about ungulates and forest harvesting for caribou conservation, but also learning lots about deer ecology in the boreal forest

And of course, thank you to D11 aka Paddy for 1.5 years of GPS locations...even if you were a bit boring and didn't really move anywhere...
also, everyone involved in this day of CSI deer (including the deer) was female #WomenInSTEM
[also note melted kitty shape in the snow in the first photo of the carcass]
