I was listening to strange sheriffs, witnesses & private investigators say crazy things on @TexasMonthly’s podcast Tom Brown’s Body.
I noticed that the only time I relaxed was when the host @skiphol speaks.
A great & disciplined reporter, Hollandsworth has the story in hand.

Then it hit me: there’s no one I trust more than THE MEDIA.
And maybe it’s because reporters like @skiphol get things so RIGHT, — & bc trained reporters with fact-checking, travel, interview subjects & storytelling skills really make very few mistakes — that people have had to cultivate this weird “I don’t trust the media” pose.
It’s like how people who believe they are good at directions and driving don’t trust Waze. Because it consistently gets things right that they can’t. So they come up with weird theories about how Waze must be distorting thing to favor other drivers, etc etc.
There have been so few corrections in MSM reporting in the last 4 years. Names, dates, details etc — billions/day — & only a vanishingly small fraction has required corrections.
And yet these are the years in which people have come to decide its all the Fake News Media.

Like these investigators & sheriffs in Tom Brown’s Body are all, “I don’t need to look at evidence, I have seen a lot in my 31 years investigating famous disappearances and everyone hugs me for it and I know all roads lead to Backpage dot com.”
THAT is non-media logic!
THAT is non-media logic!
Then Skip Hollandsworth comes in with some reason and sanity and the sheriffs dodge the whole thing, don’t admit they were wrong, and say, “You can’t trust the media.”
In sum, maybe normal Joes have decided to wholesale hate the media not because it’s wrong but because it’s RIGHT so maddeningly often. And makes them feel cognitively impaired.
Hating the media saves people fr/ having to prove their points AND admit they’re wrong.
