Food for thought: whether they agree or disagree, in 10yrs of teaching, I have never ever had a Catholic student unaware of church teaching on abortion. I regularly have students unaware of teaching on migrants & poverty @USCCB
Almost every mass-going student recounts homilies on abortion. Almost none have heard a homily on welcoming refugees or against structural racism prior to college.
faithful are not confused about abortion @USCCB but are deeply confused abt what priority of life & dignity means

When a majority of white Catholics seem unaware or dismissive of teachings on migration, poverty, & racism - embrace as prolife & procatholic a president hostile to migrants, communities of color, and stoking racial violence - therein should worry abt misleading the faithful.
Reports from Nov meeting hugely disappointing.....the faithful need & deserve better, especially in 2020 during pandemic, economic struggles, increased racial violence, rising nationalist sentiment...such a level of failure of accompaniment, ministry, leadership.
I will say similarly - Biden, Pelosi, etc are fully open about when they agree/disagree w teaching as public rep. This cannot be said for Catholic republicans who twist church teaching on poverty, migration, & racism unable to admit that they are in fact disagreeing with teaching
Giving benefit of doubt: @USCCB should have task force focusing on fact that many Catholics in Congress seem completely unaware of fullness of church teaching on dignity of worker, poverty, migration, & racism. this has been manifest long before Trump - #Ryanbudgets
Important also to recognize that while moral condemnation of abortion goes back far (its in the Didache)...concern for the poor & welcoming the stranger is not new or lesser teaching. Its at the very heart of the ENTIRETY of Scripture.
