All put into their current positions within the last week.
- Miller: Named Secretary of Defense Nov 9
- Cohen: Named ASD So/LIC Nov 10
- Patel: Named Miller's COS Nov 10
(All three worked on the NSC together)
(Miller and Cohen both have the ASD SO/LIC in common)

The ASD SO/LIC is an advisor position to the Secretary of Defense. Primarily it's a policy oversight position regarding SOF activities. It's a high ranking civilian position. The Principal Deputy ASD for SO/LIC is Joseph Tonon, he doesn't have a bio up yet.

The presser today was about changes to the Special Operation Forces Command (SOF).

ASD SO/LIC is a "service like" role which caused a bit of consternation with the JCS who controlled the SOF. One challenge is that SOCOM has it's own SO legislative affairs office and directly engages Congress allowing them to bypass SO/LIC... until 2017.

Another issue was the role the CIA played with the SOF... which, in 1975, Dir Colby admitted included things such as bio weapons for depopulation programs. In fact, anytime Congress asked, he answered... he was murdered in 1996. Dead men tell no tails.

I found this is the CIA FOIA information... seems Colby was also about to expose the secrets he knew of JFK's assassination. But then, we already knew the CIA was involved. What's interesting is their use of the SOF as a paramilitary force.

Admiral McRaven... need I say more?

BTW: his wiki isn't updated, but he did retire in 2014. He also wrote an op-ed last month titled "Biden Wil Make America Lead Again"

They're usually anti-Trump for a reason... just saying.

So, back to what happened today. Dec 2017, Congress finally passed reforms moving the SOF to the Defense Agencies under the Office of the Secretary of Defense (where the ASD SO/LIC falls) and away from the Combatant Commands.

The new org chart will look something like this.

In order to finally get this done, serious changes to the Joint Chiefs of Staff had to take place. Only 3 from this picture remain.
