Let’s be clear: #COVID19 economic changes have disproportionately impacted women, especially women of color, in a way that will be felt for years to come.
“The sudden return to 1950s-style households wasn’t an aberration. Rather, it revealed a truth: In the United States, mothers remain the fallback plan.” https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/17/upshot/schools-closing-mothers-leaving-jobs.html
We all personally know *at least* one woman in our lives who has become so overwhelmed during #COVID19 that they have been forced to sacrifice their careers to take care of their kids during this time. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/17/upshot/schools-closing-mothers-leaving-jobs.html
We also all know a woman who has been deemed an essential worker (disproportionately women of color), and who has had no choice but to work to support their family during the pandemic.
Our economy relies on the labor of these women without providing access to affordable childcare, paid family leave or guaranteed worker protections to keep their families covered at home.
