I keep hearing variations on this one. The "biologization" of religious belief, as if it were something that could be "cured" or "inoculated against," strikes me as more materialistic than anything the most strident atheist claims. Not unlike mask-wearing as an affront to God; or lockdown as anti-ecclesial, another public health initiative has to be turned into as an assault on religion. Because this one right has become the refuge for every grievance.
What's funny about this is that John Locke in the 1689 Letter Concerning Toleration talks explicitly about how religion *does not work* materially like a medicine. "I may be cured of some disease by remedies that I have not faith in. I cannot be saved by a religion I distrust."
Entire architecture of religious liberty based on the idea that religion is an inner disposition that cannot be coerced because it doesn't work without your consent. To hear it conceived as something susceptible to vaccination is not just crazy sci-fi. Its a conceptual revolution
