Old school sounding death metal that doesn’t sound like every other OSDM band right now, a thread:
Ruin: okay, these guys actually are old school, but they didn’t really get active outside of their 1991 demo until 2015. Sick, grotesque, and ignorant as hell, with some seriously gurgling vocals
FFO: Impetigo, Undergang, Mortician https://thedeathmetalcult.bandcamp.com
Pharmacist: Full death/grind Carcass worship of the highest order, straight from Japan. 2020’s been a busy year for them with one album, one EP, and a split. https://pharmacistgore.bandcamp.com/album/medical-renditions-of-grinding-decomposition
Scolopendra: Italian death metal that really leans into the cult horror vibe. Great gallops and heaps of fun
FFO: Necrophagia, Mortuary Drape https://nuclearwarnowproductions.bandcamp.com/album/those-of-the-catacombs
Skulmagot: pure, American style death metal from Finland. These guys have been in the studio, so hoping for that third full-length soon
FFO: Cannibal Corpse https://skulmagot.bandcamp.com/album/skulled-to-death
Siege Column: The beautiful thing about this band is it feels like they draw inspiration from the same sources are the death metal pioneers without copying any one act.
FFO: High octane violence https://siegecolumn.bandcamp.com
Kommand: thrashier than your typical OSDM band these days, but with plenty of raw primitivism to go around https://kommand-maggotstomp.bandcamp.com/album/terrorscape
Assimilation: it ain’t all about caveman riffs - these guys are bringing the technical prowess of the first few Morbid Angel and Gorguts albums straight into 2020 https://assimilationvancouver.bandcamp.com/album/tainting-the-purity
Iron Cemetery: BLISTERING death/thrash. Hear a bit of Ripping Corpse here, but a lot less technical and a lot more visceral https://ironcemetery.bandcamp.com/album/manic-deliverance
Druid Lord: This is how I imagine a death/doom project would sound out of the Deceased camp. Plenty of gruesome horror with a thick driving mid-pace https://druid-lord.bandcamp.com/album/grotesque-offerings
Question: Leave it to Central America to keep it real. Imagine putting Incantation and Immolation in a blender with Asphyx, I imagine the results would be similar to Reflections of the Void https://question-chaos-records.bandcamp.com/album/reflections-of-the-void
