Despite nearly a decade of promises, action to address this has been far too slow.
Since data was first published in 2015, the number of people in these units has fallen by only 18% with over 2,000 people still trapped in these units

One of the obstacles is a lack of funding for appropriate community support which keeps people trapped in expensive & inappropriate institutions.
The Government has promised just £25 million to address this scandal, which is only £12k for every person trapped in these units.

In 2019, @UKLabour pledged £355 million a year to fund community support so that people could move out of these woefully bad and inappropriate inpatient units and back to their communities.

If the Government is serious about supporting people with learning disabilities and autistic people in the community, as they have repeatedly claimed they are, then this is the scale of ambition they need to show.
