THREAD: It's is well known that the #Eagles have been struggling, but do we know why they've had such a rough 2020 season?

Below I compare production and pinpoint the ongoing issue(s).

I hope you take some time to read because this is very much fact, not opinion. #FlyEaglesFly
[1/25] - Quarterback

Carson Wentz simply hasn't been himself. 2020 is surpassing 2016 as his career's worst season, but he still has time to bounce back. As seen in the table, Wentz is completing the ball LESS times for LESS yards while throwing FEWER TDs and MORE INTs.
[2/25] - Quarterback (cont'd)

This stems from a bunch of things, but the most pivotal is the amount of pressure Wentz is enduring. He's already a slower reading QB who maxes out the pocket clock, now he can't even get through his full progression before taking a hit.
[3/25] - Quarterback (cont'd)

Wentz is throwing the ball at a higher rate than ever before, while having the best RBs he's had in his career. Sanders was hurt but when he's healthy, Pederson refuses to get him in rhythm. Carson hasn't been himself but Doug isn't helping.
[4/25] - Runningback

Sanders was setback by injury in 2020. He has played 6/9 games and is on pace to have the best game averages by an Eagles RB in quite a bit. Boston has stepped back into the RB2 role and his receiving numbers should boom for the remainder of 2020.
[5/25] - Runningbacks (cont'd)

The most frustrating part about these numbers is that Sanders averages 40 more yds/g than Eagles RB1s in the last 4 seasons. So, why isn't he running the ball more than 14/game? This is on Doug and he's not trying to make it any easier on Carson
[6/25] - Wide Receivers

Coming into the season the biggest question mark for the Eagles was the WR position. After drafting Reagor and Hightower the position still seemed questionable. Then came Travis Fulgham. He's on pace to have a Pro-Bowl type of season (if there was one).
[7/25] - Wide Receivers (cont'd)

The WRs have outperformed previous seasons' WR groups. The 2020 group has progressed in every statistic other than WR3 receptions and TDs (Hightower). This seems counter-intuitive, how can Wentz have his worst year while his WRs have their best?
[8/25] - Tight Ends

It's because Carson has never been so Tight End deprived in his career. Goedert is just returning to play, while Ertz is on IR. These two have been Wentz's primary threats since 2018. In 2017 Wentz relied heavily on Ertz and Burton.
[9/25] - Tight Ends

TE1 is avg 3.5 less tgts, 2.5 less rec, 25 less yds, and 0.25 less TDs. I hope Howie learns that a roster without 3 viable TEs should no longer be an option with Carson Wentz at QB. All it takes is some data to show how TE reliant Carson is.
[10/25] - Tight Ends

It's important to note that it's not a knock on Carson that he is TE reliant. It's rather a knock on the Front Office and HC for not being prepared for injury in a SHORTENED season. Wentz will be better with Goedert back.
[11/25] - Defensive Line

Cox and BG have been a staple of the Eagles DL for a while now. This year BG is having a career year while Fletcher looks like he's ready to hang 'em up. Graham has improved in every facet while Cox is slowly declining, specifically on the pass rush.
[12/25] - Defensive Line

The DT2 that is primarily occupied by either Hargrave or Jackson hasn't been living up to the hype. They both are underperforming previous DT2 while being paid much more. This sheds light on some more bad decisions from the Front Office.
[13/25] - Defensive Line

There is still plenty of time to turn it around, but I just don't see them getting it done against some of the NFLs best OFF, when they've had little production against OFF like WFT, NYG, SF, DAL, etc.
[14/25] - Defensive Line

Last but most certainly not least is EDGE2 Josh Sweat, who is been playing extremely well. The Eagles are very good on the edges in both the run/pass game. If they could get more out of the DT position they'd fare well against these upcoming Offenses.
[15/25] - Linebackers

Linebackers have it tough becuase they are expected to plug and play the run game while being able to drop into coverage upon a pass. The Eagles Linebackers are actually pretty good in the run game, much better than some of the previous LB groups.
[16/25] - Linebackers

However, their coverage may be the worst in the NFL. Nate Gerry is allowing 25 more yards in man coverage than the OLB1 has over the last 4 seasons. Considering that only tallies the yards in man coverage, imagine if zone coverage data was availble...ouch.
[17/25] - Linebackers

A bright spot in the group is Alex Singleton. He has been improving game in and game out and has produced some impressive numbers in pass coverage. Singleton is rangy and physical, a recipe for success in flat zones. He will see the reps with Gerry on IR.
[18/25] - Defensive Backs

The Eagles aren't having as many secondary issues as they normally do this time of year, but they're no where near perfect. The addition of Darius Slay has proved to be massive as he is allowing 21 less yds/game to opposing team's WR1.
[19/25] - Defensive Backs

It seems odd that Slay has a higher completion % and a lower passes defended count, but this is a result of his WR being less open. These WR1 are being targeted much less compared to 2016-19 that the completion % is inflated.
[20/25] - Defensive Backs

Another offseason move that seems to be paying off is moving Jalen Mills back to Safety. Not only has Mills been less injury prone, but he has also produced much more than he was at CB. Mills was one of the worst tacklers on the Eagles last season.
[21/25] - Defensive Backs

Now with more time and space to read and react in the run/screen game, Mills has cut his missed tackles in half. Mills and Mcleod are holding down the fort as of now, but they are going to be tested come these next few matchups.
[22/25] - Kicker

Normally I wouldn't include the Kicker in this, but with Pederson's recent trend of not kicking, I felt the need to look at Elliott's numbers. Immediately it's obvious that Pederson's choice to go-for-2 hasn't been based off of the "analytics" as so many say.
[23/25] - Kicker

Elliott is a perfect 12/12 on XPs which sheds light on Pederson's arrogance to go-for-2, when it usually doesn't succeed. Elliott is averaging 2 less points this season than he has in his career. This is a result of missing FOUR FGs while not attempting all XPs.
[24/25] - Conclusion

The Eagles still find themselves in 1st in the NFCE, but changes are needed. Once the TEs are back and fully healthy, Carson will shine. Until then, Doug needs to take some literal and metaphorical pressure off of Wentz.
[25/25] - Conclusion

Doug has to do a better job play calling. Whether it's getting Wentz back to doing what he does best (Play Action, Boots, RPO's) or feeding the ball to Sanders (who's producing above average already). If he fails to do this, he simply doesn't deserve the job
