I decided not to participate in the #festivaluk2022 team who, I cannot stress this enough, are amazing group of people & wish them best of luck. I left because of many reasons, not only ethical but also personal & professional. While understanding the controversy of it all, 1/5
esp. because I am coming from family of artists prosecuted in 70s & 80s in Poland for not conforming to propaganda, I feel that shaming fellow artists and orgs (w/ amazing track records), is not the best practice either and will fuel bigger polarisation and division. 2/5
The COVID and looming vision of brexit left many people drowning, so lets not judge too fast without understanding individual circumstances. While I am biased because of my upbringing, I have learnt that world is not black and white 3/5
& sometimes we need to remember about various shades instead, even if that means stepping outside our comfort zones & echo chambers. By all means I'd never endorse brexit, far away from that, but I feel that we need to show more love in our own community to start healing. 4/5
At the same time I encourage everyone - including all #FestivalUK2022 teams to read and consider this @MigrantsCulture thread and letter:
