It was actually more in the 60s. In the 50s black women were expected to straighten their hair because curly was deemed as “nappy” or bad hair”. So the afro was a way for them to reject Eurocentric standards of beauty, and celebrate black beauty. Look it up.
Y’all say it’s “just a game”. But if we complain about cultural appropriation irl yall will say it’s just hair. Not like we can get suspended for wearing our hair a certain way. Not like we’re told our hair isn’t professional. Not like white people take our styles to be trendy
