Oh my... if Rubio hates this you only can imagine what he thinks of that nonviolent Messiah @ReverendWarnock is quoting! https://twitter.com/marcorubio/status/1329055330286891012
Next he’ll be saying,

“love your enemies”!

Or,

“Put away your sword!”

Or,

“Those that live by the sword die by the sword.”
What is this extremism?!?

Answer:

It’s the teachings of Jesus.

You know, Jesus.
That you say you love
yet you hate his life and teachings
in this video

...and in general.
I just want to pause for a moment and acknowledge how horrible @marcorubio’s theological grasp must be to retweets this not realising that what he’s got a problem with is ⚠️THE CONSISTENT CONVICTION OF THE EARLY CHURCH⚠️ when it comes to the military.

Spectacular. 🤯
Do I do that thing where I quote early church fathers and show how consistent @ReverendWarnock is with the witness of the early church?

Is that what we are doing? Ok @marcorubio, this is for you...
Justin the Martyr (so called cos he died loving his enemies and refusing to kill),

“We who formerly hated and murdered one another now live together and share the same table. We pray for our enemies and try to win those who hate us.”
“Murder, considered a crime when people commit it singly, is transformed into a virtue when they do it en masse.”
-that’s sanctified sarcasm from St. Cyprian
“Christians, instead of arming themselves with swords, extend their hands in prayer.”

- St. Athanasius of Alexandria (not an NRA member)
“The Christian does not hurt even his enemy.”

-Tertullian (who you can guess what he thought of drones strikes)
“You cannot demand military service of Christians any more than you can of priests. We do not go forth as soldiers with the Emperor even if he demands this.”
- Origen (unaware of Rubio’s solid counter argument, “Sure you can. Just do it for God *and* country.)
“Christ, in disarming Peter, disarmed every soldier.”
- Tertullian (who also missed the memo on future Constantinian merger of Church and Empire that allows you to keep ‘Christ’ as long as the terms meaning is emptied of all subversive-nonviolent-Jesusyness.)
“I serve Jesus Christ the eternal King. I will no longer serve your emperors. It is not right for a Christian to serve the armies of this world.”
~ Mercellus the [former] Centurion, as he left unwilling to study war no more in 298AD cos he those “Jesus is Lord” meant something.
“We have exchanged our swords for plowshares, our spears for farm tools…now we cultivate awe of God, justice, kindness, faith, and the expectation of the future given us through the Crucified One”

-Justin Martyr spelling out the “Beloved Community NOT Bombs” policy
And maybe I’ll end on Clement of Alexandria spelling out why no Christian can support the death penalty or the military,

“Above all Christians are not allowed to correct by violence sinful wrongdoings.”
And that’s my best take on how salt doesn’t have to lose it’s saltiness.

I look forward to waking to news that @marcorubio has responded to @ReverendWarnock altar call & is dedicating his life to beating the Industral Military Complex into a nonviolent force to combat poverty.
