Really? @PreetBharara orchestrated 1 of the most destructive law enforcement ops of our lifetime, the #Bronx120 gang takedown – the largest gang sweep in the history of NYC. He prosecuted mostly Black public housing residents based on who they knew, where they lived. THREAD
There've been a few docs about the #Bronx120. The story of Kraig Lewis ( @BBOflock) is particularly powerful bc it shows the human impact of an operation that @PreetBharara tried to sell to the public as the take down of "the epitome of organized crime."
Last year, @babe_howell & P. Bustamante's report on the #Bronx120 blew holes in Preet Bharara's sweeping statements of guilt, showing abt half those in Preet's dragnet prosecution weren't accused of being in gangs & most weren't even accused of violence. http://bronx120.report
Shortly after the report, and with the help of NYU Law students, people who'd been affected by Preet's gang prosecutions protested outside NYU Law where
@BrennanCenter was celebrating his ironically-titled book, "Doing Justice." https://twitter.com/Josmar_Trujillo/status/1123720488348520448

That same day, Taylonn Murphy Sr., whose son was prosecuted in a **Manhattan DA** takedown (these happen at the federal & state level), wrote an op-ed in @Gothamist decrying gang takedowns. https://gothamist.com/news/nycs-gang-raids-are-about-vengeance-not-justice
Bragg wants to be Manhattan DA to do what exactly?

The NYU students were out with us again last November as we protested Preet at yet another event where liberals were celebrating this prosecutor despite what he did to dozens and dozens of families in the Bronx. https://twitter.com/Josmar_Trujillo/status/1196976172292288512
The mother of a young father prosecuted as a gang member by Preet's office tried to get answers from him, but he ran off – apparently unable to face the people whose lives his prosecutions destroyed. https://twitter.com/Josmar_Trujillo/status/1196975199863951361

So in this day where people are finally rejecting endorsements or donations from law enforcement, does @AlvinBraggNYC really relish the endorsement of the former federal prosecutor? It seems politics might trump social justice, which is exactly what we already have at the Man DA.
It's up to @AlvinBraggNYC if he wants to accept (or brag abt) Preet's endorsement, but it definitely says something to social and racial justice advocates – and I think Bragg might be underestimating how loudly it says it. /END
