Also, this:

"Biden said many times during the campaign that he would leave any decision whether to prosecute Trump up to his attorney general."

Biden wants to firmly reestablish the independence of the DOJ.
""If that was the judgment that he violated the law and he should be, in fact, criminally prosecuted, then so be it," he said during a debate in Atlanta. "But I would not direct it.""

He will put in place executive orders to deter anyone in his admin from meddling with DOJ
Also, Biden is being handed a pandemic to properly respond to, a tanked economy, and a seriously polarized electorate. He has a perilous balancing act to move us forward.

"Biden [is concerned] investigations would ...risk making every day of his presidency about Trump"
We have had four years of the narcissistic hellbeast. The next four years cannot be all about him.

But giving doj independence allows ballots investigations to move forward without prejudice.
Finally, remember that anonymous aides speak with agendas that do not always accurately reflect real thinking or outcomes.

Some aides were actively trying to deflect Biden from picking Kamala Harris.

We know how that turned out.
Let's give him a chance to get started before slamming him on the basis of anonymous aides' background remarks. Let's listen to his words & watch his actions.
Ps: saying too much now before we know the makeup of the senate could hand serious ammo to McConnell. Biden has to keep his truest sentiments close to the vest until he is in office.
