In which I share some thoughts. I keep seeing experienced DMs day that Tasha's is more for players, and some even saying DMs can probably skip it.
I unequivocally disagree.

A bit of follow-up:
Tasha's is written for us newer players and DMs alike. It's less obvious than XGTE, because it's sort of sprinkled throughout the content.
Take the different kinds of planar shards, for example.
To DMs with decades of experience, it's a neat item.

To those of us who started playing with 5e, and have been DMing for 1-3 years, this tells us new cool shit about the planes that maybe we didn't know.
And the new spell"books" and the blurb on reflavoring spells? Old news for you, but new and brain-busting for us.

The magical environments? HOT DAYAM.
Some of you older DMs have several editions of DMs and planar books and supplements on religions and faiths and campaign supplements in 3 editions and so on.
We have the section in the DMG that gives like 2-3 effects per plane.
That's it.

I'm not here to poop on your vast experience in anyway.
The sheer amount of vast knowledge and ideas and inspiration you have in your literally and imaginative library is incredible.
It's life-goals.
However, please remember that you are no longer the norm, average or mean.

With the complete explosion of 5e, and it's exponential growth in the number of new players,
that, by extension means an explosion of NEW DMs.
Not only is 5e the first edition for most of us players, but many of us who stepped up to the DM seat had little play experience first.

Many of us don't have even a handful of campaigns from which to draw inspiration from.
I've been playing and DMing for nearly 5 years.
I played under a dozen AL games before DMing AL, and then jumped straight into DMing my own game.
That's it.
And I'm not unusual there.

It's only in the last year that I've played in an actual campaign. The things I've learned in this year, playing in a weekly campaign, with a DM who started with 2e are... incredible.
It's opened my eyes to just what that wealth of experience provides so many of you.

I get why Tasha's doesn't FEEL like a book for DMs to you. All the things in there are just okay items and neat effects to you, because you actually don't need them.
I love you guys, and learning from you. But remember your experience isn't universal.
This got long.

Welp. I just pulled my phone out after a D&D session today and uh... I didn't not expect this to go quite this far when the coffee and ADHD meds hit simultaneously this morning and I shouted all this into the void.
Um. Hi? Thanks for all the kind words.
