I feel like #LGBTQinSTEMDay and #PolarPride Day is probably a good opportunity to poke my head above the snow and post a bit about what my research in the Arctic entails... 🏳️‍🌈❄️
I am a 🏳️‍🌈 🧑‍🎓 looking at the ways in which climate change is affecting Inuinnait food systems in the Canadian High Arctic ❄️🐻‍❄️Pictured below is the community I am lucky enough to work in for some of the (non-COVID) year, Ulukhaktok, ISR. 🏠
Community members also record their activities for us in to give us a better understanding of how climate change is affecting subsistence activities throughout the year. 🎣 I am fortunate enough sometimes to go on harvesting trips out of the community (it can get a bit cold) 🥶
We also ask community members how other parts of daily life are affecting their ability to source land-based (otherwise termed 'country') foods. This contextualises climate change, and works to qualify its impact relative to other challenges 🌎🏛️🏥
If you want to know any more about my work, let me know and I'll see if I can help! Over and out! ☺️
