Roughly four years ago, the Obama DOT attempted to enact a V2V #DSRC mandate. That proposal floundered and was ultimately withdrawn by the new administration. Today, after years of consideration, the @FCC is poised to take the next step in vehicle safety in the 5.9Ghz band. *🧵*
Dedicating 30MHz of the 5.9GHz band to C-V2X use will put an end to the failed decades-long experiment in DSRC, a technology that never realized its promised potential. Further, certainty around this spectrum's disposition will empower OEMs to finally deploy the best in V2V tech.
In the process, a vital 45MHz of mid-band spectrum will be made immediately available to all Americans for unlicensed Wi-Fi use. This development could not be more timely given the necessity of keeping Americans connected as the nation continues to battle #Covid_19.
