Writing Tips from MangaKamen - WARNING: you do not have to listen to me about this.
1) Have fun/passion with your writing. Even if it is about a serious topic, make sure that you are well versed and enjoy what you're making. If you don't, it'll show in the actual writing

2) Map out what you wanna talk about, don't just wing it all the time.
- Stuff like characters, very important events, even how systems work in your world are very important aspects to your story, and you want to aim for consistency.

3) Criticism. Ironic coming from me, but you don't need to accept all forms of criticism levied at you. You can dislike it, and even explain why you feel it doesn't apply.
Just listen to it.
No shame in thinking it's stupid though.

4) Take constant breaks while working, to avoid burn out.
Just don't take too many, otherwise you'll never get anything done, try to find a good blend of working and relaxing.

5) Politics in writing aren't necessarily a bad thing. Just try to avoid hamfisted politics that will inevitably be rendered useless, for example, making Trump Jokes will make the writing extremely dated - The world's internal politics should be what actually matter.
6) Sex and violence aren't a bad thing, just remember that while you can push the envelope, remember what your targeted audience is - You don't want strippers in your children's picture book.
7) Do your research. If you're taking elements from another culture, don't just go off by appearances alone, and make sure that you do your research when it comes to design work, stories, legends etc.
8) If your character does something stupid, they should pay for their stupidity. Don't save them from their consequences.
Example: Letting someone live after killing a loved one in front of them while they're shouting "I'll kill you!".

9) Don't let the mobs intimidate you into changing something about your story. It's your story, your characters, that's YOUR creation. Not theirs.
10) Humans aren't logical, but that doesn't mean that they're stupid. Unless your character was born with a dunce cap, keep your characters consistent and not have them be pulling dumb stuff that gets saved by the writer.
11) Antagonists - They can be bad
They can be dicks
They can be sympathetic
They can be of any nationality, gender, sexual orientation
They can be relatable
They can just watch the world burn
They can be a fallen hero
It's up to you.
