To have a rational talk about how people spend their money on kpop twitter you have to be unbiased about the band in question. I'll sideeye you if you bought 600 albums bc that's 600 albums, not because I think the music sucks (in which case, I'd judge listening to it for free).
But in cases like raising money for album buying, which will then be used in giveaways for people who don't have the financial security or means to buy the album, that's... not an organized charity, but also bringing happiness to people? One size doesn't fit all in this equation.
You can argue that it's a waste of money all you like, but so was your PS5 preorder or your collector's edition books. I'm sure that brings you a fair amount of happiness too, and I'm sure you didn't get your paycheck and go, oh, I'm gonna donate this instead of treating myself.
I've seen far too many hot takes from non armys about what bts or even armys who are financially stable should be doing despite the millions we've raised... and honestly? It's always easier to be generous with other people's money, no matter how much money you have yourself lol.
Either way let's be real this isn't about charity. It's about hating BTS. I have zero patience for those who keep insisting that the most visible Asian artist in the world has to keep being generous, esp when it's from ppl who aren't even appreciative of them. Kinda racist innit.
To clarify, this is about the people who have been yapping on and on the closer the comeback gets about how the album is worth 50 dollars and how Marx would never do this to them and etc like music isn't an industry where artists are rarely paid well w/ them being exceptions???
Also in your anti-BTS agenda you're not actually gaining western stans who follow your bands, you're just encouraging racists to give their opinions and make fun of kpop because they can't stand poc succeeding in a country that's already biased against non english speakers
Just remember the whole "I thought you said BTS isn't kpop?" thing goes both ways... you can weaponize that part of army twt against us all you like, but people who agree with you who AREN'T kpop stans... are just amused at the infighting bc it makes their racism easier to hide.
I didn't mean to write an essay on this lol just be aware of the kind of drama you feed into on your timeline. It's okay to want things that aren't necessities? No need to politicize that? Being selfish doesn't actually go against your leftist principles that's just being human.
