This is a thread about music royalties and how they are divided to clarify more about them and to explain how important it is to give a lot of support when artists are on the song credits!! This is the co-admin for updates hope my first thread is helpful!!

Music royalties are payments that go to recording artists, songwriters, composers, publishers, and other copyright holders for the right to use their intellectual property. The music industry relies on these royalties as a primary form of payment to musicians.

For listeners, a song is a song. However, for the music business and industry, every song is split into two set apart copyrights: composition (lyrics, melody) and sound recording (literally, the audio recording of the song).

People who write the lyrics and melody (songwriters) of the song own the composition copyright; Composition copyright is split between whatever them and their publishers that are involved.

Recording artists that sing and perform a song and their record labels own Sound recording copyrights. There are further distinctions but for the most part, what matters is that this copyright only belongs to artists and whatever label is behind them.

Those parties may have nothing to do with the people who write the lyrics and melody. However when they’re one and the same, that means DOUBLE the cash flow to them. Thus supporting songs were artists own right to compositions is even more important.
