THREAD Interesting new data on #inequality in China coming from @WIL_inequality - on the rise but stabilizing.

"In China, the
top 1% captured 8% of national income in 1990 and
rose to 14% in 2019"

๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐ŸŒ #F24
But interesting to look at regional context...

Over same period, India went from 11% to 21%.

"๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ & ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ followed similar inequality pathways between 1990 and 2000s, & diverged afterwards, with ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ able to stabilize its inequality levels & ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ unable to do so"
Also worth looking from an even wider perspective.

"It is worth stressing that communist countries like ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ and ๐Ÿ‡ป๐Ÿ‡ณ display lower inequality levels than non-communist countries like ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ and ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ญ, yet, they still display much higher levels of inequality as compared to Western Europe"
