One thing I've noticed since being on Twitter: there are a LOT of predatory services being thrust in the faces of indie authors.
I'm talking publishers who won't market your book; editors whose own websites are replete with basic errors; cover designers who don't understand, say, how to make text readable; fumbly, sibilant audiobook narrators.
There are, of course, people who do brilliant work in all these areas. Plenty of them.

But please, authors. There are also people who will prey on how badly you want to see your work come to fruition.
So get testimonials, talk to other authors, get second opinions, look at examples of people's work. Above all, nurture and trust your own sense of what your work needs, and don't settle for a pale approximation.
